As most know, I am an auntie of 12. Yes 12! I take my role as an auntie very seriously, because growing up I didn’t have aunts/uncles to support me in my life even though I came from a large family. I am the second youngest from a total of 6 siblings and have been blessed with the opportunity to share in the love and care of the 12 children my older siblings have provided. It is a very different feeling to love a child as an Auntie. I don’t feel the responsibility of being a parent nor do I know the feeling, but I can appreciate the uniqueness of the relationship between a mom/dad and their child. Each one of these children I have watched grow and I have share a bond with them unlike a parents, yet equally responsible. The relationship that I have with each one of these children is unique and I love it!
I am writing this blog, because I would love to share the announcement of my niece Elena’s 16th birthday. I know that in today’s society social media is a BIG thing especially among the youth and a Facebook post simply just wasn’t going to cut it. So here goes my praise to this little lady who has made this Auntie feel so special and loved on more than one occasion. This is my letter to you love.
Elena- My Lanie Bug,
From the day you were born I knew you were strong. I knew you would be a brave soul. You were so quiet and calm in all you did, and maybe your mom and dad might say otherwise, but I was convinced you would be like me. lol (dance to the beat of your own drum that is.) I wanted to teach you things that I knew and was happy to share all the knowledge I had obtained in life with you. But you are not like me. You are your own being, and although you do still dance to the beat of your own drum you are things that I only wished to be.
Songs have escaped those lips since you were a baby. I have heard raindrops turn to lemon drops and gum drops while watching Barney with you, the song “Las Mananitas” takes on a whole knew meaning because of you, and we both have sang from the top of our lungs the words to Christina Aguilara’s “Beautiful” together on more than one occasion as I would get ready for dates with your uncle David when we were young and had just started dating. I loved those moments. That same little voice that sang to Uncle David and I at our wedding “God Bless the Broken Road”. With tears running down your face you stood brave in front of all those people and shared with us something only you could.
I thank you for the joys you have brought me just from watching you grow. As you know dear, I don’t have babies- yet. You make me look forward to becoming a parent and raising my own beautiful little soul to watch grow. I am so proud of you in all you accomplish and know that life is just beginning. There are so many things to see and experience in this world. Maybe you might get scared with a few things out there, but do as you always have and find the good in all that comes your way, keep your faith strong, and first and foremost continue to love God and let him guide you and I promise that you will move mountains. Please know that no matter your age or mine! lol That Auntie will always love you and have time for you. I wish you every blessing this world has to offer and more. Happy Birthday Lanie Bug I am so happy to share in this day with you!
From my heart to yours,
