• SAN ANTONIO WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHERS

We are San Antonio wedding photographers David and Irene Castillo of Expose The Heart Photography. This blog is kind of the viewfinder of our lives as San Antonio photographers. Fifteen years ago we started doing photography as more of a hobby. . As our love for one another grew from friendship to more; so did our love and passion for photography. So we decided start a San Antonio wedding photography studio. We look at life as an adventure and are happy to share the journey with you good or bad! On this blog you will see our lives as San Antonio photographers as well as peek into our day to day lives.

We photograph more than San Antonio weddings and more than San Antonio wedding photographers. We also have a thriving San Antonio portrait photography business as well that includes newborn photography, baby photography, family photography, high school senior photography, real estate photography, and commercial photography. We can even take your picture using film formats as well since we have our own darkroom.

San Antonio Bridal Extravaganza January 2014

It has been a great start to the new year and David and I are glad to have participated in this past weekends San Antonio Bridal Extravaganza. There is always such a great turn out of wedding vendors that are willing to help out with all of your bridal needs. We have participated in the San Antonio Bridal Extravaganza for over 3 years and last year alone we participated in a total of 3 Bridal Extravaganzas because we love the atmosphere so much. The Bridal Extravaganza really helps to put us in front of thousands of brides and allows those brides the opportunity to meet so many wedding vendors in one place at one time with ease.

The Bridal Extravaganza allows brides to see a good amount of work without being too confrontational. We know that planning a wedding can be stressful and there are an array of options out there and finding a photographer that you “click” with (pun intended) isn’t always easy. The Bridal Extravaganza allows you a welcoming environment where you can meet us and have a little taste of our personality as well as provides you a quick way to see what type of work we can produce.

If you are a bride (or groom) and just got engaged or are starting to plan your wedding, or even if you are just a friend of a recently engaged couple be sure to check out the next Bridal Extravaganza that will be held at the Henry B. Gonzalez Center in June 2014. You will not be disappointed!

We also wrote a blog about the June 2013 Bridal Extravaganza that you can see here.

Julie Johnson Castillo - LOVE

Happy 16th Birthday Elena

As most know, I am an auntie of 12. Yes 12! I take my role as an auntie very seriously, because growing up I didn’t have aunts/uncles to support me in my life even though I came from a large family. I am the second youngest from a total of 6 siblings and have been blessed with the opportunity to share in the love and care of the 12 children my older siblings have provided. It is a very different feeling to love a child as an Auntie. I don’t feel the responsibility of being a parent nor do I know the feeling, but I can appreciate the uniqueness of the relationship between a mom/dad and their child. Each one of these children I have watched grow and I have share a bond with them unlike a parents, yet equally responsible. The relationship that I have with each one of these children is unique and I love it!

I am writing this blog, because I would love to share the announcement of my niece Elena’s 16th birthday. I know that in today’s society social media is a BIG thing especially among the youth and a Facebook post simply just wasn’t going to cut it. So here goes my praise to this little lady who has made this Auntie feel so special and loved on more than one occasion. This is my letter to you love.

Elena- My Lanie Bug,

From the day you were born I knew you were strong. I knew you would be a brave soul. You were so quiet and calm in all you did, and maybe your mom and dad might say otherwise, but I was convinced you would be like me. lol (dance to the beat of your own drum that is.) I wanted to teach you things that I knew and was happy to share all the knowledge I had obtained in life with you. But you are not like me. You are your own being, and although you do still dance to the beat of your own drum you are things that I only wished to be.

Songs have escaped those lips since you were a baby. I have heard raindrops turn to lemon drops and gum drops while watching Barney with you, the song “Las Mananitas” takes on a whole knew meaning because of you, and we both have sang from the top of our lungs the words to Christina Aguilara’s “Beautiful” together on more than one occasion as I would get ready for dates with your uncle David when we were young and had just started dating. I loved those moments. That same little voice that sang to Uncle David and I at our wedding “God Bless the Broken Road”.  With tears running down your face you stood brave in front of all those people and shared with us something only you could.

I thank you for the joys you have brought me just from watching you grow. As you know dear, I don’t have babies- yet. You make me look forward to becoming a parent and raising my own beautiful little soul to watch grow. I am so proud of you in all you accomplish and know that life is just beginning. There are so many things to see and experience in this world. Maybe you might get scared with a few things out there, but do as you always have and find the good in all that comes your way, keep your faith strong, and first and foremost continue to love God and let him guide you and I promise that you will move mountains. Please know that no matter your age or mine! lol That Auntie will always love you and have time for you. I wish you every blessing this world has to offer and more. Happy Birthday Lanie Bug I am so happy to share in this day with you!

From my heart to yours,

Auntie Reenie

Tiffany | San Antonio Bridal Portraits

Tiffany or as her mom likes to say, “Tiffy” radiates bridal bliss. Her gown was absolutely beautiful and now that the wedding is over we can FINALLY post her bridal portraits. It was a very hot session in the middle of summer and although we had planned for an early morning shoot it didn’t quite work out that way- no big deal! Mom and Dad in hand we set out to document their first born in all her bridal glory. We had a great shoot and Tiffy made it too easy! A few tips that we provide our clients prior to doing an on location session are: to bring walking shoes. Which for Tiffany means to bring heels and she wouldn’t have it any other way! To bring plenty of water (Dad brought a cooler full), and of course to have fun! This we did. We had plenty of fun walking around the grounds of the Botanical Gardens and all the gorgeous florals and landscapes it has to offer. We even had fun stealing the grooms light saber which we used in a few shots before we panicked and sent it right back to the car! Yoda even made an appearance at Tiffany’s bridal session. I would say all in all it was a success and I couldn’t be happier with the images. Let me know what you guys think? Isn’t she a beauty? I know dad kept saying “I don’t know if it is just because she is my daughter, but she looks like she should be in a magazine.” I agree dad! The last photo in the set is one that Tiffany’s dad requested we take. It is something they have been doing since she was a kid. They took a photo together when she was a young girl and she was wearing aping dress and her father was wearing a white shirt, as a teenager they took a photo in front of the photo and Tiffany was wearing a pink suit and her dad was wearing a white shirt. For her bridals they mixed it up a bit. Tiffany wore the white gown and her daddy wore the pink shirt. The relationship I witnessed between the parents and their children is something to be cherished. Tiffany’s dad Tom calls it helicopter parenting, I call it real love. Tiffany you are stunning and full of life and laughter it has been so fun being a part of your wedding journey!

San Antonio Maternity Photography: Alexi and Chase

After these two love birds got married it was straight away to baby making time! Alexi and Chase have our hearts and we are happy and eager to welcome their new bundle of joy Amelia. We were honored to share in documenting the wedding of these two last April and are even more excited to document their little cub once she arrives. We met Alexi at one of the 2012 Bridal Extravaganzas. She stopped by our booth and said “I want you guys”. We had a wedding the day before hers and were a little worried about the two being so close together as we normally do not take on more than 24 weddings a year, but after sitting with Alexi and getting to know her and checking with our other client to make sure there would be no overlapping times and both would get the attention they deserved we gave the okay and became their wedding photographers. The first photo session we had with these two started with their engagement session. Alexi informed us that she had a plan for her family photos that would start here. White shirts and jeans would be one of the outfits in ever session in life moving forward from this point (minus wedding day of course). So here are a few photos from her maternity session. We are so glad we were able to help capture these cherished moments in your lives together and watch your family grow. You both have become great friends and we wish many blessings in the journey ahead.
